A fundraising campaign is in the works in St. Louis to erect an 8-foot statue honoring the ‘Father of Rock and Roll’, Chuck Berry; whose guitar style directly inspired great rock icons like The Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley.
The campaign plans on raising over $100,000 to meet its goal. The efforts are being led by Joe Edwards, owner of Blueberry Hill, a landmark restaurant and music club; and Charlie Brennan, a KMOX radio host. The statue of the rock and roll pioneer is the perfect fit for St. Louis, considering Berry still lives and performs in the area. The statue will be placed on Delmar Boulevard in University City. The bronze masterpiece is being created by renowned artist Harry Weber, whose works include Lewis and Clark, Thomas Jefferson, and Bob Gibson.
The statue will represent Chuck Berry as a breakthrough rock and roll artist of the 20th century, who brought the worlds of black and white together in a song. There is no doubt the statue of this musical icon will capture the audiences of future generations and beyond. To learn how to make donations, visit chuckberrystatue.com.
