After what I have heard the guitar he used on the European tour July 2007 is from the early 1970's. I think he used the same guitar on the European tour November 2007.

I've been following and contributing to this forum for a while. While simple, this is one of the best questions I've read!!!

That IS a good question. It's one I get asked quite a bit. It's a 1978 ES-355. My father bought it new here in St. Louis. It's a true work horse of a guitar.

What's really special about it is the tone. For it to be from the 70's, it's one of the best sounding 355's made (excluding of course the one's made in the 50's - mid 60's). Yeah, it's been beat up but it has a really rich sound quality to it. The newer ES-345's have a REALLY, REALLY good tone to them as well.

Another thing that makes it a bit different is the fact it's a SECOND. What I mean is Gibson sold some of their guitars they deemed "not perfect" factory quality. They may have had a scratch in the finish or flaw in the wood however, still quite useable. This is one of those guitars. Under the serial number on the head stock is the word "SECOND"

But the white one he had in the 50/60's was that also a 335?

I had a 345 from 2002 but I wasn't satisfied with the tone. Too flat and midrangey, so I've sold it. What I really would like would be a nice long neck cherry es-330 from the late '60s......But maybe a 335td from the '70s
would be nice as well. But those Gibson are getting too expensive!
CBII, you sure have a lot of nice guitars laying around:) which one you prefer:
es-330
-es-335
es-345
-es-350t
-es-355
???

My 1960 ES-345 is my favorite semi-hollow body. Your right on some of the newer stuff though. I've gone to guitar shops and played some Terrible overpriced guitars. You still find some excellent stuff from time to time.

My mother, sisters and I bought my father a couple Custom shop ES-335's over a couple of years and they were PERFECT! The custom shop stuff is much more consistant in quality.

The main player guitar during the late 50's and early 60s were a 1955 ES-350T with P-90 pickups and a 1958 ES-350T with PAF Humbuckers.

CBII, I want to thank you for sharing this precious informations with us. It's really great to be able to communicate with you.
The new 335 from the custom shop are 335 block? This is the one I was thinking to get (when I can afford it). I've never had a cherry red guitar and I would need to fill the gap. The 345 I was mentioning it's the one you've seen on the youtube video (Nadine). Sad to tell but the cheap old black Silvertone ('65 model 1446L with original Gibson minihumbuckers) I play on "It's my own business" plays way better than the new Gibson. So I keep the Silvertone and sold the 345....You never learn enough how life can be strange.
