Hi everyone,
I've seen Mr. Berry many times over the years, but always in larger venues. It was unbelievable to see him in a smaller club like Blueberry Hill. I bought tickets as a birthday present to myself...I can't imagine a better gift. For many years, I've gone to see a different rock and roll legend for my birthday. In recent years I've seen Les Paul, Paul McCartney, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. I've always been fortunate enough to meet and get autographs from these legendary performers...many of whom have since passed away. I was especially excited to see Chuck Berry, since he regularly greets fans after the show. After an energetic show filled with hit after hit, Chuck made his way offstage. I quickly made my way to stage right where I was told Chuck would sign autographs. I was minutes away from meeting a true living legend, or so I thought. The area around me quickly swelled with other fans in a chaotic mass of people anxious to meet Mr. Berry. I was pleased that I had secured my place at the front of the group. Chuck's security guy then suggested that everyone form an orderly line up on the stage. Suddenly I ended up near the back of the group, because of this new line being formed. Needless to say, I was disappointed...but still happy to be in line. About 20 minutes later, it was my turn to greet the legend. I had gone over and over in my head what I was going to say to him...but my mind went blank. I was nervously clutching my well worn CB album from my childhood, preparing to hand it over to the man himself, when the unthinkable happened. Mr. Berry stood up directly in front of me and walked away. The security guy informed us that there would be no more autographs. Me heart sank...I was next in line! I completely understand though...Mr. Berry had just put on one amazing performance and he was understandably exhausted. Lots of happy fans went away with autographs that evening, but unfortunately I wasn't one of them. St. Louis is a beautiful city, and I enjoyed my trip immensely. I had actually prepared a display to be framed with his autograph when I got home. Maybe next year I'll make the trip again and have better luck getting the autograph. Thanks Blueberry Hill for an unforgettable evening!

Dave

Dave-- Sorry you didn't get the autograph, glad you got the great BBH experience, and I sure understand the dumbfounded speechless part! It's amazing that he gives as much as he does, including the autographs. Now, as you point out, you've got a(nother) reason to return. Peter

I'm thinking about buying a Chuck Berry autograph on eBay...maybe that will ease the pain a little :(
I wonder if CB ever signs anything through the mail?

Hey CB II...does your father ever sign through the mail?? I was so disappointed that he stopped signing right as I approached him. It really would mean alot to me. Seeing your father perform was the highlight of my trip to St. Louis, but I was seriously looking forward to having his autograph. I don't think I'll be able to return to Blueberry Hill anytime soon. On a positive note, I was able to become friends with the girl in the photo that sat on your fathers lap! Have a great week...

Dave, anything is possible. Try and send something to BBH and I will see if I can get it signed and sent back to you.
